Dont worry about NIT report on PVNR Expressway

If you read the last blog post by us which pointed to a NIT Warangal study on the PVNR Expressway. The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) on Tuesday asserted that it had taken sufficient precautions of traffic management and safety aspects for smooth and safe movement of traffic on the PVNR Expressway. Reacting to reports that the NIT, Warangal, in a study, had pointed at deficiencies in the maintenance of the expressway, the HMDA said it had conducted a road safety audit, through an EPC contractor, to identify problems faced by users of the expressway and the safety aspects too.The HMDA claimed that most of the issues raised had been attended to.

“The tree branches on the flyover are removed and damaged street light poles and lights are rectified. The Traffic Police have been alerted and they have increased vigil on the expressway to prevent two/three-wheeler movement on the flyover,” the HMDA said, adding that the NIT suggestion that a noise barrier be provided to one of the buildings close to the flyover at Mehdipatnam was under the consideration of the Project Management Consultant.

NIT Warangal study finds PVNR flyover unsafe for commuters

The country's longest flyover, PVNR elevated expressway, is unsafe for road users. This startling fact came to light when the National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal, conducted a study on road safety and submitted its report to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) recently.

The report also exposed poor maintenance of the 11.71-km flyover which starts at Mehdipatnam and ends at Aramgarh junction. The PVNR elevated expressway was opened to traffic in October 2009. An expert team led by NIT professor Dr CSRK Prasad, who heads the transportation division of the department of civil engineering, inspected the flyover last December and submitted a detailed report, including suggesting a few remedial measures.
