NIT Warangal is well connected by rail and road.

• Air Route: Hyderabad is the nearest Airport from Warangal. Take a train or a cab to our campus, which takes around two and half hours by road and two hours by rail.
• By Road: NIT Warangal is 2½ hrs drive by cab on Hyderabad - Warangal National Highway number-202.
• By Rail: Kazipet (3 kms) / Warangal (12 kms) are the nearest railheads. Many trains pass through Kazipet junction, which is generally preferred. On furnishing details of your travel plans to the Placement Officer, arrangements will be made to receive you and bring to the campus there on.

Lakshya Scholarships for NIT Waragal Students

Project Goal: To fund NIT Warangal students in need of financial assistance.

This was Lakshya's first project, a milestone of sorts in student-alumni-faculty relations.

There are some students who find it hard to pay their institute fee, and this might be weighing them down from transforming their full potential into results. Lakshya verifies such applicants and has been pays institute fee. Apart from payments, we are extending this project to cover:

1. All round development through the Mentoring program.
2. Making this a complete scholarship by issuing basic curriculum books for each semester.

Know More About NIT Warangal

NIT Warangal was one of the first REC to be established in India, with the foundation stone laid in 1959 by Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru himself. One of the smallest in terms of area (248 acres) among all the NITs, over the last 50 years it has grown into a premier engineering institute in India.  The college follows a uniform credit based course structure and a GPA based assessment. The course content and recommended textbooks at undergraduate level are all of good standards (compared to IITs) and the gives opportunity for students learn and build their knowledge in the area of interest. Along with the academic activities the college has a good selection of sports and co-curricular events for complete all around development of the students. The Faculty in most of the departments are comparable to other NITs and are usually more involved with teaching rather then research work. Warangal is very close to Hyderabad (132 Kms), which is one of the major IT centers in India. This close proximity with Hyderabad has in recent years led to a huge placement opportunity for students at NIT Warangal. Almost all the big companies like Microsoft, Google, Oracle, IBM etc visit campus for placements. Most of the students prefer to take up jobs in IT and Software industry. The number of students taking up higher studies whether for MBA or Masters is relatively low (when compared to other IITs and NITs).

Also being one of the oldest NITs the infrastructure in terms of building and hostels is very old and not at par with other colleges. To address this a big area of focus in recent years has been renovation of old buildings and construction of new hostels. The college also has a good financial support program for students , every semester 10% of students receive tuition wavier under the merit scholarship program. Thus, among the NITs, NIT Warangal consistently features among the top three along with NIT Trichy and NIT Suratkhal.

October 10, 1959	Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru lays foundation stone for the College, the first in the chain of eighteen NITs (formerly RECs) in the country.
November 10, 1959	Registration of the Society of Regional Engineering College, Warangal
August, 1965	Commencement of UNESCO assistance project.
October, 1972	Change of affiliation of the College from Osmania University to Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University. Academic autonomy conferred on the College.
August 19, 1976	Change of affiliation of the College from JNTU to Kakatiya University.
August, 1981	Admission for B.Tech. through Common Entrance Examination for students from Andhra Pradesh.
June, 1987	Establishment of Entrepreneurship Development Cell.
January, 1990	The College is selected for assistance under UK-INDIA Project.
June, 1991	Memorandum of understanding signed between the College and Confederation Indian Industry.
April, 1994	Commencement of UK - INDIA RECs Project.
January, 1995	Campus LAN installed. E-Mail facility provided by dial up connectivity through Central University, Hyderabad.
October, 1996	Commissioning of a dedicated Internet connectivity through VSAT dish. Browsing and E-mail facility provided.
November, 1996	The AICTE recommends to the M.H.R.D and U.G.C the award of the Deemed to be University Status to REC Warangal.
October 23-24, 1999	??40th Foundation Day Celebrations?. His Excellency Dr.C.Rangarajan, Governor of A.P.,and? General K.V. Krishna Rao (Retd. Chief of Army Staff) graced the occasion by their presence.
May 16, 2001	MOU was signed between STPI, Hyderabad and REC, Warangal regarding setting-up of Software Technology Park at the Institute.

July 20, 2001	AICTE grants the status of QIP (Quality Improvement Programme) Centre to the following departments: Ph.D. Programme ? Departments of Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Mathematics in addition to Civil Engineering. M.Tech. Programme ? Departments of Electrical Engineering and the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering.
September, 2001	Inauguration of MSIT course in A.P. by the Hon?ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh at Hyderabad with a Learning Centre at Rec, Warangal
July, 2002	Board of Governors resolved to approve the new Memorandum Of Association (MOA) for conversion of Regional Engineering College, Warangal as National Institute of Technology (NIT), Warangal.
September, 2002	Institute renamed as National Institute of Technology, Warangal and offered the status of Deemed University.
July, 2003	Admission of students for B.Tech through AIEEE.
August 4, 2003	Prof. Deba Kumar Tripathy takes charge as the first Director of NIT Warangal.
August, 2003	Change over to IIT Pattern in Curriculum: Revision of Syllabi and rules of regulations for the UG and PG Courses? and introduction of semester system for B.Tech and MBA at the first year level. Change over of evaluation pattern to Credits and GPA system.
June 2004	The Institute receives an assistance of Rs. 11.41 crores from the world bank under TEQIP (Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme).
March 1, 2004	Ist Convocation of NIT Warangal. Prof. S.K. Joshi, Chairman, Board of Governors, IIT Roorkee and Former Director General, CSIR delivers the First Convocation address.
January 22, 2005	2nd Convocation of NIT Warangal. Dr. Anil Kakodkar, Chairman, Atomic Energy Commission and Secretary, Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India delivers the Second Convocation address.
June 2005	MOU was signed between NIT Warangal and M/S Philips Software, Bangalore. Under this MOU Philips software shall sponsor a maximum of 5 candidates to pursue M.Tech (VLSI) in the institute. Further research collaboration is planned between the two partners. Phililps Software shall also sponsor a state of the art laboratory in VLSI at the institute.
