Re: Gangadhar's reply to [compilers_nitw] Inviting articles for Pointer '06 - Valedictory Issue

Dear Gangadhar and friends,

Had you actually wished the message to be taken in a positive sense, you might have replied to the author, rather than to the group, which would do nothing but to publicize the issue and lead to a repeat of the mail-war situation already experienced earlier. Anyway, I probably do not have a right to complain since the fault was solely mine.

Let me start with what I should have informed earlier - the closing date for submission of an article has been extended to the morning 11AM of the 10th of April. This postponement has been announced, keeping in mind the possible dates of release of the magazine, expected between Tuesday and Friday next week.

The Editorial Board of the Pointer apologises for the short notice offered for submissions, however, the Editorial Board was constrained to do so. The Pointer team was informed an hour before the mail was sent that the Pointer was to be released along at the CSEA-held Valedictory Function slated for today. The Pointer team decided that little time was better than nothing, and hence the request was made. It appears that the request was in error - the author apologises for the same.

In previous issues, the Pointer team has always been bringing out the magazine at short notice. The notice given to others members was short, but then, that is not the sole moment an article has been requested. As given in the website of the Pointer magazine since September '05, articles may be emailed to pointer.nitw@gmail.com anytime. The current invitation might be deemed ridiculous, however, I would implore you to couple it with the standing invitation at the website.

With the above introduction in mind, if only a few names are seen in the Pointer magazine, it is probably more due to lack of interest of the writer, than the time frame given. Interested people have already submitted articles - Tanujit Medhi sent in an article by 7:00PM on Thurday.

The fact that the earlier information was incorrect was received by the Pointer team late into the night yesterday. The Pointer team has not yet been informed of the release date of the magazine, yet it is expected to be anywhere between Tuesday and Friday. With this end in view, articles may be submitted upto 11AM, one day before the release of the magazine. For more information about this date, the executive members of the CSEA may be contacted. If enough time is found, the author may expect Gangadhar and his friends to contribute a few articles to the magazine. In case the magazine is released or finalized before the articles could be submitted, I assure you that your articles will be considered for the next issue of Pointer.

This has been a rather long mail - more a test of the reader's patience - leading me to express my apologies once again. At the end, I would encourage all recepients to submit articles for consideration to the Pointer Editorial Board and contribute to the success of the department magazine

Arijit Sengupta,
for the Editorial Board, 'Pointer'
