Re: [compilers_nitw] Workshop on Carrer Opportunity in IT Sector

Dear Craig and Kush

It is rather surprising to find people quabbling over the event, that is being arranged by CSEA. But while Craig is right in that the event is rather without meaning for us final years, Kush is right in that the blame should not be put on the CSEA. Instead of blaming the CSEA, he has suggested we think out a solution to this problem. The problem is what could be called a solution... Once arranged, the event is not going to be cancelled. And final years will be the guinea pigs for audience.

Knowing our department and its rather smooth association with final years and especially our batch (the worst in 20 years), I can firmly say that it would never have arranged such a talk for final years, of all years, unless Prof Sanghi personally put in such a request. From Prof Sanghi's viewpoint, on-campus placements might be yet to start (placement are yet to start in IITK) and it might be actually a great idea to include final years in the workshop. Grudgingly, I believe, our department had to agree.

Now there are three problems with this:

The timing: The department and only the department is to blame from this. But I am without hope that something can be done in this regard.

The topic and the speaker: I might have actually prefered if a person from the industry had lectured us about this, but on the other hand, it might be wrong on my part to make this comment. Naturally, nothing can be done about this either.

The requirement of final years: This might be due to Prof Sanghi. Unfortunately, there appears to be no one's fault in this. But perhaps, something can be done about this. I am currently without ideas as to what, but maybe the class can think out something about it.

craig,
on behalf of the CSEA i think u put foreward pretty valid points but try 2 understand dat da CSEA is organising da event, v hav not planned it....
its not our big idea just like technical talks on topics such as solaris device drivers which is greek and latin 2 everyone is not my big idea....
i guess dat instead of blaming da CSEA v sud actually try 2 think of a solution 2 da problem....

I am not quite sure as to the very purpose of this workshop!
After all, over 90% of the class has already been placed and
a number of us have got more than one job. What is the point
of lecturing us on Career Opportunities in IT sector??? I think we've
attented enough PPTs to be able to know that for ourselves.

Besides, if the workshop is "especially" for the final years,
the CSEA should have consulted us in deciding the dates if they
wanted our confirmed participation; which i am sure they will now
not get.
